Rooted In Healing: A 10-Week Mental Health & Sisterhood Circle for Black Mothers

Rooted in Healing is a FREE 10-week support group designed for Black mothers at all stages of their journey—prenatal, postpartum, and beyond.
Grounded in Black feminist thought, liberation psychology, reproductive justice, and Afrocentric healing traditions, this space offers a mix of mental health education, sisterhood, storytelling, and community care.
Each session includes:
- Grounding practices
- Meaningful discussions
- Healing activities
- Nutritious meals
- Occasional guest speakers
- An opportunity to build community
- And a child-friendly space

This group is led by Alexis Cobbins. Alexis is a seasoned leader and advocate in maternal health and social work. With over 15 years of experience advancing equity in public health and human services, Alexis has led transformative initiatives to improve outcomes for Black mothers, birthing people, and families. She formerly served as Executive Director of the California Preterm Birth Initiative at UCSF, where she championed community-led research and innovative strategies to address birth disparities. A trained social worker, Alexis brings a trauma-informed, justice-centered lens to her work, grounded in principles of reproductive justice and Black feminist thought. Her work bridges policy, community engagement, and systems change to create lasting impact for historically marginalized communities.
