It focuses on their relationships\, sense of belonging\, financial health\, etc. This provides Black men with two hours per week where they can reflect and talk to other Black men about their goals and discuss pain points and traumas that are holding them back. This fosters a safe space of vulnerability for Black men where they feel comfortable with one another\, can relate to one another\, share and hear similar stories from each other\, and come together to overcome systemic barriers. \nEach week’s group session will cover a different topic and have different experiential activities. SUMMARY:Prostate Cancer Awareness Event
DESCRIPTION:Prostate Cancer Awareness Event\nWhen: Thursday\, September 11\, 2025\, from 5:30 – 7:30 PM \nWhere: Rafiki Coalition (Main Floor) – 601 Cesar Chavez Street\, San Francisco\, CA 94124 \nProstate cancer disproportionately impacts Black men\, often appearing earlier\, progressing more aggressively\, and leading to higher mortality rates. Many also face barriers to timely treatment and care. This event will provide education on prostate cancer\, treatment options\, proactive steps to protect your health\, and personal experiences shared by a prostate cancer survivor. This educational event is led by Dr. Samuel L. Washington III\, MD\, MAS and Dr. Nynikka Palmer\, DrPH\, MPH. \nDr. Washington is a urologic oncologist and Assistant Professor at UCSF in the Departments of Urology and Epidemiology & Biostatistics. His research focuses on reducing barriers to cancer care and improving outcomes for communities most affected by prostate cancer. He serves as the Community Outreach and Engagement Liaison for UCSF’s Prostate Cancer Program and as Associate Chair for Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion in the Department of Urology. Dr. Washington is also a member of several national committees dedicated to advancing health equity and improving cancer care. \nDr. Palmer is an Associate Professor at UCSF in the Department of Medicine at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital\, with secondary appointments in Urology and Radiation Oncology. Her research develops culturally responsive solutions to improve prostate cancer care for Black men\, including peer navigation and provider communication tools. She leads the Prostate Cancer Task Force of the San Francisco Cancer Initiative and holds leadership roles advancing diversity\, equity\, and inclusion at UCSF. Community engagement is central to her work\, ensuring research and care reflect the voices and needs of the community \nJoin us for this insightful health education event! SUMMARY:Between Brothers: A Black Men's Wellness Group
DESCRIPTION:Between Brothers: A Black Men’s Wellness Group \nWhen: Wednesday\, August 6 – October 22 (12 weeks) from 6-8 PM \nWhere: Rafiki Coalition – 601 Cesar Chavez Street\, San Francisco\, CA 94124 \n  \nThis is a 12-week\, Black men’s wellness group focused on holistic aspects of personhood. It focuses on their relationships\, sense of belonging\, financial health\, etc. This provides Black men with two hours per week where they can reflect and talk to other Black men about their goals and discuss pain points and traumas that are holding them back. This fosters a safe space of vulnerability for Black men where they feel comfortable with one another\, can relate to one another\, share and hear similar stories from each other\, and come together to overcome systemic barriers. \nEach week’s group session will cover a different topic and have different experiential activities. For example\, the group will start by discussing identity and what that means for Black men. DESCRIPTION:Between Brothers: A Black Men’s Wellness Group \nWhen: Wednesday\, August 6 – October 22 (12 weeks) from 6-8 PM \nWhere: Rafiki Coalition – 601 Cesar Chavez Street\, San Francisco\, CA 94124 \n  \nThis is a 12-week\, Black men’s wellness group focused on holistic aspects of personhood. It focuses on their relationships\, sense of belonging\, financial health\, etc. This provides Black men with two hours per week where they can reflect and talk to other Black men about their goals and discuss pain points and traumas that are holding them back. This fosters a safe space of vulnerability for Black men where they feel comfortable with one another\, can relate to one another\, share and hear similar stories from each other\, and come together to overcome systemic barriers. \nEach week’s group session will cover a different topic and have different experiential activities. For example\, the group will start by discussing identity and what that means for Black men. During this discussion\, they’ll also analyze Kendrick Lamar’s raps about his parents\, so the group participants can better understand their relationships with their parents and any trauma that may exist there. \nWe hope you’ll join us for this incredible wellness group! \n  \nAbout Dr. Jeffrey A. Suiter: \nDr. Jeffrey A. Suiter is a Detroit native and clinical psychologist whose holistic\, culturally affirming approach empowers clients to heal\, grow\, and live authentically.
