SUMMARY:Alzheimer’s Health Talk Event
DESCRIPTION:Alzheimer’s Health Talk Event\nWhen: Thursday\, November 6th\, 2025 from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM \nWhere: Rafiki Coalition (Main Floor) – 601 Cesar Chavez Street\, San Francisco\, CA 94124 \n  \nAlzheimer’s disease is a growing public health crisis affecting millions worldwide and Black Americans are about twice as likely to develop Alzheimer’s as white Americans. This event will explore why this disparity exists and what can be done to fight it. \nJoin us for an informative discussion on what Alzheimer’s and dementia are\, how they impact our community\, and the role of factors like high blood pressure\, chronic stress\, sleep\, and diet play in prevention. Learn practical ways to protect your brain health and take part in an open Q&A with experts in the field. \nThe speaker for this event is Dr. Charles Windon\, an Assistant Professor of Neurology at UCSF’s Memory and Aging Center\, where he specializes in the care of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. His research focuses on improving early detection and diagnosis among diverse and historically underrepresented populations\, while exploring how social and cultural factors impact brain health. \nHe earned his BA from Princeton University and his MD from Rutgers–Robert Wood Johnson Medical School\, completing neurology residency at UCLA and a behavioral neurology fellowship at UCSF. \nDr. Windon’s work has been supported by the Alzheimer’s Association and the National Institute on Aging. He is the recipient of multiple honors\, including the Solomon Carter Fuller Award\, John A. Watson Faculty Scholar Award\, and recognition as a Dean’s Health Equity Scholar. Through outreach and volunteer work\, he continues to bring education and care to African American communities in the Bay Area. \nJoin us for this insightful health education event! Dinner will be provided. REGISTER HERE! \nPlease contact dwilliams@rafikicoalition.org for more information.

DESCRIPTION:Between Brothers: A Black Men’s Wellness Group \nWhen: Wednesday\, August 6 – October 22 (12 weeks) from 6-8 PM \nWhere: Rafiki Coalition – 601 Cesar Chavez Street\, San Francisco\, CA 94124 \n  \nThis is a 12-week\, Black men’s wellness group focused on holistic aspects of personhood. It focuses on their relationships\, sense of belonging\, financial health\, etc. This provides Black men with two hours per week where they can reflect and talk to other Black men about their goals and discuss pain points and traumas that are holding them back. This fosters a safe space of vulnerability for Black men where they feel comfortable with one another\, can relate to one another\, share and hear similar stories from each other\, and come together to overcome systemic barriers. \nEach week’s group session will cover a different topic and have different experiential activities. For example\, the group will start by discussing identity and what that means for Black men. During this discussion\, they’ll also analyze Kendrick Lamar’s raps about his parents\, so the group participants can better understand their relationships with their parents and any trauma that may exist there. \nWe hope you’ll join us for this incredible wellness group! \n  \nAbout Dr. Jeffrey A. Suiter: \nDr. Jeffrey A. Suiter is a Detroit native and clinical psychologist whose holistic\, culturally affirming approach empowers clients to heal\, grow\, and live authentically. With deep roots in Pro-Black consciousness and extensive experience in mental health leadership\, Dr. Suiter creates safe\, restorative spaces for self-discovery and resilience.
